LIFE UPDATE

An Honest Look at Where I’m At + Where I’m Headed

MARCH 25, 2021

I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog and Instagram over the last few weeks resting in the stillness and marinating on my thoughts. I’ve been asking myself a lot of questions about what I want to do, why I want to share any of it and how the future looks.

There are a lot of people on social media sharing amazing content as they pursue their design dreams and, well, it’s hard not to compare.

I’m in the midst of a life pivot, a crisis of sorts somewhere between quarter and mid-life. Much of my identity in the last 6+ years has been one of a full-time working mom trying to do and be all the things. So, when my husband and I made the BIG decision at the end of last year for me to leave my corporate job to spend more time with our kids and explore a career I was excited about, I felt a bit lost once the adrenaline of such a big leap wore off.

I’ve found myself somewhere in between wanting to go all out towards my dreams (and part of that is figuring out exactly what those are!) and simply taking a step back and resting for a moment after a busy and, honestly, draining last few years. I can’t help but think about what people expect of me and what I expect of myself. I’m a hard worker. I’m an achiever. I should be working towards big goals, right?

But, I have to remind myself, I took this leap to enjoy more of life, time with my kids and husband, and to do something I’m excited about. Putting so much pressure on it takes away so much of the fun. I prayed for years and years to be able to be home with my babies more and now that I’m here, I find myself saying, “OK, what’s next?!” I need to rest in being in the midst of an answered prayer instead of being so focused on the next thing that I don’t enjoy this season.

So where do I sit today? I’m still figuring it out. What I know is I love helping people curate a home they love, where real life and beauty can co-exist, and do so in an affordable way. I love home. I love design. I love hospitality and finding the perfect gift for the people in your life. So, I’m going to share those things as long as it’s still fun and fulfilling.

I’m a mom. A wife. A design junkie. A hostess. An INFJ to the core. I spend approximately $2,321 on kid’s snacks each week, clean the kitchen 7 times a day and am learning (trying to learn?) home doesn’t have to look perfect 100% of every day to be perfect. I don’t have it all figured out but I appreciate you being here as I share more of the things I love and hope you love them too.

In honor of enjoying this season, here are some real-life images from the last few weeks.

SUNDAY SERIES

Loving / Eating / Reading / Doing

MARCH 14, 2021

This little lady and I are L O V I N G that Spring is a few days away. I get asked multiple times a day if we can go to the pool and while it’s not quite that warm yet, I know it’s just around the corner, thank goodness!

I am starting something new – Sunday Series – where I share what I’m loving, eating, reading and doing this week. I love to write and share things I’m into and hope you find some enjoyment in reading!

Loving

I found a new candle at Target I’m a bit obsessed with –  At the Peak by Opalhouse.   Itcomes in a couple different jars but I love this simple frosty blue and gold one. The scent is frosted spruce and eucalyptus, and trust me… it’s good. Definitely up there with my other favorites – Driftwood and Sea Salt also by Opal House and my local favorite, Balsam Fir from The Nest.

Eating

I mainly cook low carb meals but I’m constantly looking for something new to make since it’s easy to get tired of the same old things week after week. My favorite meal on this week’s menu are sheet pan fajitas, a recipe I got from Nancy Anderson’s 30 Day Slim Down, which I highly recommend!

  1. Cut chicken (or your favorite protein), bell peppers, onion into strips
  2. Toss in olive oil and lim juice and season with chili powder, salt, garlic
  3. Bake at 450F for 20 minutes
  4. My favorite part! Serve with an avocado crema made by combining avocado, coconut cream, lime juice, salt + pepper (Add cilantro if that’s your thing).
  5. You can serve over quinoa, rice or in a tortilla, depending on your preference. These uncooked tortillas are my family’s fave – they taste just like what you get at the restaurants.

Reading

By reading, I mean listening since I devour most books via audio. In the last year, i’ve really gotten into audio books and podcasts. Currently, I’m listening to The Attractor Factor by Joe Vitale. It’s interesting although I’m still trying to figure out how I actually feel about what he says. I shared more on my favorite books of 2020 here.

Speaking of listening, I have been using these affordable wireless bluetooth headphones that are basically AirPod knock offs and so far I have loved them. 100% worth the $28.99 price tag!

Doing

It’s Spring Break so the week ahead involves a little more time with the kids and hopefully finding plenty of chances to be outside. I’m beyond thankful for the slightly warmer temps after a cold and snowy winter (I’m a summer girl through and through!)

On the work front, I’ve been dicing into a dining room refresh and a furnishing project for a beautiful lake house. Can’t wait to share more on both projects soon!
